The circumference or the perimeter of a circle is given by using the circumference formula
|
Circumference = 2.π . r or by an alternate formula Circumference = π .d Where r represents the radius of a circle d represents the diameter of a circle. π represents a transcendental number whose approximate value is 3.14 C is the center of the circle shown in the figure. Lets consider an example. Find the circumference of a circle with radius 5 cm. Circumference formula is: |
|
Circumference = 2.π.r Here r =5cm therefore we have 2.π.5 = 31.4159 cm
If diameter of a circle is given we can either compute radius from diameter and utilize the same formula as above or use the diameter version of the circumference formula
Circumference = π.d
The circumference of a circle with diameter as 8cm is:
Apply diameter version of the circumference formula π.d, we get
π.8 = 25.1327 cm
