Habitat Alteration and Conservation
The habitat and adaptation have a very strong relationship and a perfect balance must be maintained for the survival of the organism. Due to natural calamities and human activities the habitat often gets altered. These alterations may be permanent or temporary.

Causes of adverse effects on the habitat

The effects on the habitat due to indiscriminate human activities and certain natural calamities lead to increase in pressure on the fauna. Animals are forced to abandon their natural habitat and seek alternate ground for their survival and in doing so may upset the food chain and the ecological balance. As a result several animal and plane species might get extinct.

This indiscriminate human interference with the environment must be put to an end. The Human Resource Development (HRD) and the Natural Resource Development (NRD) have a vital role to play to check this damage and have laid down stringent measures to control the situation. In the human centred environment, man must realise that he is a partner and not a master, and must conduct himself in relation to the rest of the living and non-living factors of the environment. If serious remedial action is not implemented, man himself may ultimately become an endangered species. Not only the habitat but also human resources must be conserved so that there is harmony between man and the biosphere and flora and fauna maintain a healthy balance.
