Environment and its Problems

Interrelationship of Population, Environment and Development
As mentioned earlier man's intervention is causing drastic changes in the environmental systems of earth and disturbing its ecological balance. This disturbance gets compounded with the problem of population explosion in the world especially the developing countries. The rate per annum at which the human population is increasing now was the rate of population increase per 1000 years in 1000 A.D. The population explosion has caused many problems as it places a severe strain on the resources. This problem is only going to compound itself in the future as no solution has yet been found for the increasing population.

In view of population explosion, it will also be more challenging to have sustainable development which is the need of the hour. Sustainable development will be possible only if more importance is given to conservation of nature. The benefits of conservation of nature can also be reaped by man. For example, an emphasis on cleaner environment and better maintenance of resources like the wildlife will boost the tourism industry. This in turn will have a positive effect on economy because increased tourism will increase the demand for hotels, restaurants, travels, etc.

In order to make the development more environment friendly, measures which reward industries that do make an effort and penalising those which do not will certainly help. It is necessary that ecologists and conservationists are part of the planning for the future development.
