Cells of the Immune System
Lymphocytes are the main cells of the immune system. They arise from stem cells present in the liver in the foetus and in the bone marrow in the adult.

Comparison of cell-mediated and humoral immunity

Some of them continue their maturation in the bone marrow and develop into b- lymphocytes or B - cells. Others migrate to the thymus, a gland located in the chest above the heart and mature there. They develop into T - cells or T - lymphocytes.

The B - cells form the humoral immune system and the T - cells form the cell mediated immune system.
