Control of Ozone Depletion

Policy decisions are already taken in India to undertake technology developments for alternatives to CFCs. Two CSIR laboratories - National chemical laboratory and Indian Institute of Chemical technology are working on this. Along with this, parameters for design modifications such as compressors, heat exchanges, motors are also under investigation at several CSIR laboratories.

It is found that a chemical named as R-22 has low ozone depletion level.

However, the experiments are yet to confirm its long-term benefits and commercial utility. It is clear that globe is moving towards gloomy future, as we approach the middle of 21^st century. Ozone depletion has been fully established that UV radiation and radiation below 290 nm will have worst impact on biosphere. However, no large scale replacement of any new alternative to CFCs are yet possible.
