Monoclonal antibodies are pure, high affinity, antigen specific, proteinaceous bodies derived outside the organism from clonal cultures of hybrid cells called hybridomas.

Being very specific and reproducible, antibodies are able to be conjugated to toxic drugs and injected to kill/inhibit specific diseased cells without affecting normal cells. Hence, they are useful in cancer treatment. They can also be useful to develop immune systems against microbial diseases.
