Ecological Adaptations - Mesophytes
These are land plants which grow in moist habitats and need well aerated soils. They prefer soil and air with moderate humidity. They avoid soils with standing water and soils containing great abundance of salts. They have some special features.
 
Root system is well developed.
 
Stems are generally aerial and profusely branched.
 
Leaves are generally large and variously shaped.
 
Cuticle is moderately developed.
 
Mesophyll layer in leaves is well differentiated with many inter cellular spaces.
 
Vascular and mechanical tissues are well developed.
