Gametogenesis

Sexual reproduction involves the fusion of two haploid gametes to form a diploid individual.

The process by which gametes are produced in the gonads is known as gametogenesis. Gamete formation starts at puberty, an average of 9 - 11 years in girls and 11 - 13 years in boys. It is of 2 types.

• Spermatogenesis

Formation of the sperms in the testes.

• Oogenesis

Formation of the ovum in the ovary
