Hydrocarbons - Definition and Examples

Hydrocarbons are compounds containing only hydrogen and carbon.

They form an important class of organic compounds. Several organic compounds are derived from hydrocarbons. Therefore, they are also referred to as parent compounds.

Some examples of hydrocarbons are Methane, ethane, ethene, propyne etc.
