When water is added to sodium peroxide, the two react to form sodium hydroxide and oxygen.

Sodium peroxide is taken in a round-bottomed flask. Water is added to sodium peroxide from a dropping funnel. Water combines with the sodium peroxide to liberate oxygen, which is collected by the downward displacement of water (Fig13.6).
