| Following tests could be conducted for checking the presence of hydrogen chloride gas: |

| 1) The presence of a pungent, suffocating odour. |
| |
| 2) It produces dense white fumes with ammonia. |
| |
| 3) Hydrogen chloride gas turns wet blue litmus red. |
| |
| 4) It forms white precipitate of silver chloride with silver nitrate solution. |
| |
| 5) It forms white precipitate of lead chloride with lead nitrate solution. |
