Dear Sir
Sub: Spotting of UFO over Rajasthan
Many people have reported sighting UFOs, but such stories have to be thoroughly checked and verified before we accept them as being authentic.
It is actually quite easy to get fooled by flying objects in the sky. Any shiny thing in the night sky may be deceptive. Even UFO experts say that majority of the cases reported are cases of mistaken identity. Natural phenomena like shooting stars, unusual electric glow from the planet Venus, rare formation of clouds or even fog or haze can fool people. Something called 'Saint Elmo's Fire' can also play a spoof on us. This phenomenon is actually the friction of air masses of different temperatures, which cast a halo-like effect on high structures like steeples or ship masts in bad weather
One of the most popular hoaxes is known as the 'Hudson Valley Sightings'. In the late 80s, near New York's Hudson Valley, people said that they sighted a boomerang-shaped UFO, with multi-coloured lights blinking. But, UFO investigators later found that this was a trick played by a group of pilots who flew small planes. They did it by attaching coloured lights to their planes and flying in formation. Another popular case is that of Alexander Hamilton of Kansas, U.S.A. He reported having seen a cigar-shaped UFO just above his farm. He even said that the spaceman tied a rope around one of his calves and tried to yank it. Many senior citizens of the place also vouched for Hamilton's honesty. This was considered one of the best-documented UFO accounts. But many years later, it was published in a magazine that it was a big hoax - Hamilton and the others were part of a 'Liars' Club'.
The UFO spotted over Rajasthan may also be a case of mistaken identity. I request the International UFO Society to investigate thoroughly before it is taken as an evidence of life on other planets.
Thanking you
Yours faithfully

Question 2
Question: Yesterday, a magic show was held at your school, L.S.Vidyalaya, Narora. Below are shown some of the pictures taken during the show using ideas from the picture and your own ideas write out a report for the local newspaper, Narora Times, describing how the children enjoyed it. You are vikram Doshi of class IX, L.S vidyalaya.

Answer: The children of L.S.Vidyalaya, had a wonderful time yesterday. They were captivated by the speed, agility and showmanship of magician, Kim Rathod. The children watched him spell-bound for two hours. All that broke the silence was a gasp of astonishment or the sound of spontaneous applause, appreciating a trick.
Out of his magic wand came flowers, ribbons and garlands of every possible colour and seemingly unending length. It came in such quick succession that everyone was left gasping. One or two young children came up to examine the thin stick wondering how it could hold so much. They were really frustrated. As if that was not magical enough he made a rabbit pop out of an empty wooden box. It went hopping around the stage. It was soon put back into the box and seconds later, he pulled out a rat - soft, white and squeaking. The little ones seemed a little frightened by this, while the others clapped and cheered loudly. This was the grand finale.
The children did not want it to end. They shouted 'encore', 'once more'. But Kim gave them a bright smile and vanished from the scene. The children were left searching here and there for him. Then they walked out excitedly recounting what they had seen and how wonderful it was. One of them declared loudly, it was the best magic show of the century!

Question 3
Question: Noise levels in our city are at an alarming peak leading to anxiety, stress and even deafness. Taking ideas from the graph below and your own ideas, write an article about noise pollution and its effects for a children's magazine, 'Your City and You'. You are Aruna Srivastav

Answer: Noise - the horrible pollutant
Noise levels in our city are at an alarming peak. A study was conducted at two major traffic junctions in the city of Bangalore. It was discovered that noise pollution is at decibel levels far beyond the prescribed limits. On M.G. Road - a commercial area, the noise levels were at 82.5 dB (decibels) whereas the prescribed level was 65 dB. In the residential areas of Domlur it was worse. Even here the noise level was at 82.5 dB when it ought not to exceed 55 dB. Why are noise levels so high in our cities?
Noise pollution has various sources - vehicles, machines of varied sorts, our entertainment media -radio, T.V and music systems, loud speakers used at functions and festivals. The biggest culprit, however, is the vehicular traffic. Most of the buses, auto rickshaws, motor cycles that were studied grossly exceeded allowed values. For instance, one bus recorded 100 dB while the value allowed is 89 dB. It was also found that this new fad of having glass fronted buildings added to noise pollution. These reflect sound instead of absorbing it.
Our modern life-style has made us stress-prone. One of the major contributors to stress is the high noise levels. Continuous exposure to those high decibel levels could cause hearing loss, hypertension and nervous disorders. So, unless we take serious steps to reduce noise pollution levels, we will have a sick population.
It is not for nothing that silence has been described as golden. It is in calm, peaceful surroundings that we can rest and rejuvenate ourselves and think of innovative ways to make this a better world. So Let's Have Some Silence Please . Shhhh........

The woes of this modern world are one, too many - stress, anxiety, pollution, obesity, blood pressure, inflation, traffic jams, sedentary life-styles and so on and on and on. But there is a panacea for all this. Curious! It is not any hokey-pokey magic - it is cycling.
I am sure I can hear gasps and groans from the audience. Some of you do not believe me, others think I'm foolish and yet others think the cure is worse than the disease. But let me make you understand slowly and systematically the benefits of cycling
Cycling is one of the best forms of exercise. It provides exercise to almost every part of the body. So cycle to your school everyday. Continue the habit to adulthood - it is the best recipe for healthy living - risk of diabetes, hypertension, cardiac problems etc. are greatly reduced.
Cycling is a non-polluting means of transport - no carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide emissions. The non-renewable energy resources of the world - coal, oil, natural gas can be conserved for future generation

I am sure this esteemed audience is convinced about the benefits of cycling. It is high time separate cycling paths are created on our roads. This is already there is some cities like Amsterdam. Let the tribe of cyclists increase and smoke belching vehicles decrease. Let us pay our tribute to the inventor of the cycle and take an oath to make the cycle our main mode of
