'An albatross around the neck' is an expression used when the writer wishes to convey that the subject will carry the guilt of his
or her crime for the rest of their lives. This expression was first used by Coleridge in his narrative poem, 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner', which was written in 1798. The original poem consists of seven parts.
