Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772 - 1834) was a poet and a philosopher. He was a good friend of William Wordsworth. They often spent time together and even published together 'The Lyrical Ballads' which contains the earlier version of the Ancient Mariner. He lived in England and travelled to Germany. He absorbed ideas from German philosophers and on his return to England even translated two plays. His poems deal with the supernatural. He makes use of intricate symbolism and the dreamlike vividness of rich imagery.
