A conditional sentence is about the connection between two things, two events etc. It expresses the idea that one thing follows from another, or depends on another:
The meaning of a conditional sentence depends on the tenses of the verbs within it.
Look at these sentences:
1. If you meet Veerappan, he will kill you.
2. If you don't study, you will fail.
3. If we don't remove poverty from our country, it will not develop.
Underline the two verbs in the sentences:

b) will not develop.
(Verb) The first verb in each of the two sentences is in simple present tense and the second verb in the second clause is in simple future tense.

His friend Shyam narrates this incident to his mother. His conversation would be something like this:
If the alarm had gone off, Tarun wouldn't have got up late. If he hadn't got up late he wouldn't have been caught in a traffic jam. If he hadn't got caught in a traffic jam he wouldn't have reached office late. If he hadn't reached office late he wouldn't have been scolded by his boss. If he hadn't been scolded by his boss he wouldn't have shouted at him. If Tarun hadn't shouted at him he wouldn't have lost his job!
