Relatives

The words who, which, where and whose are called relatives which give us information about a person or thing and help us to convey two-different ideas in a well-connected way.

Examples:

I have just seen the film, which has been produced by Aamir Khan.

I know the teacher who has received the best Teacher Award.

I met the actor who has won the Film Fare Award.

I have read the latest novel, which Jeffrey Archer has written.

I know the family, which has moved to Antarctica.

Look at these sentences:

1. This is the land, which my father is planning to buy.

2. All my friends like two-wheelers, which pick up speed.

3. The team, which wins the cricket match, goes to the finals.

4. Neither Ram nor Shyam like stories, which are full of violent incidents

5. That was a very old cycle which Rohit brought last, wasn't it?

In these kinds of sentences that can replace which. Replace which with that and see that the sentences are still correct.

Reduced Relatives

To economise with words relatives can be omitted.

1. Mother gave her all the money which she had

2. This is the best book that I have ever read
