Concurrent Lines

Introduction
Recall that if two straight lines are not parallel, they meet at a point when produced.

Observe lines l and m which meet at a point (O).

In the diagram, l and m are called intersecting lines. O is called the point of intersection.

Similarly two line segments or two rays may intersect at a point. They are intersecting line segments or intersecting rays.

Now observe lines l, m, n passing through the same point. What do you call the point where they meet? What do you call such lines?

"If three or more lines pass though the same point, they are called concurrent lines". When three or more lines pass through the same point O, then O is called their point of concurrence.

AB, CD, EF are concurrent line segments. They pass through the same (or common) point O.

PQ, RS, MN are concurrent rays. They pass through the same point O.

In the above diagrams 'O' is the point of concurrence.

Three or more lines / line segments /rays which pass through the same point are called concurrent.
