Construction of Triangles

(a) Two angles and a side being given

To construct given and BC = 4 cm.

(i) Draw a line BC = 4 cm.

(ii) At B, construct an angle of 60o.

(iii) At C, construct an angle of 45o on the same side of BC.

(iv) Produce the arms of the angles to meet at A.

(v) is the required triangle.

(b) Three sides being given

To construct ; given AB = 4.2 cm, BC = 5.6 cm and AC = 3.7 cm

(i) Draw BC = 5.6 cm.

(ii) With B as centre, draw an arc of radius 4.2 cm.

(iii) With C as centre, cut the previous arc at A with another arc of radius 3.7 cm.

(iv) Join AB and AC.

Then is the required triangle.

(c) Two sides and the included angle being given

To construct a AB = 4.5 cm, BC = 3.7 cm and

(i) Draw BC = 3.7 cm.

(ii) At B construct an angle of 60o.

(iii) With B as centre, cut the second arm of the angle with an arc of radius 4.5 cm at A, so that BA = 4.5 cm.

(iv) Join AC.

(v) \ABC is the required triangle.

(d) Hypotenuse and a side being given

To construct a right angled triangle ABC. Hypotenuse AC = 5.6 cm, BC = 4.5 cm,

(i) Draw BC = 4.5 cm

(ii) Construct an angle of 90o at B

(iii) With C as centre, cut the second arm of the angle with an arc of radius 5.6 cm at A, so that CA = 5.6 cm.

(iv) Join AC.

\ is the required triangle.
