The difference between these two values is called the absolute error.
Absolute Error = Original number - Approximated number
The ratio of the absolute error and the original number expressed in percentage form is called percentage relative error.
The number of students in a school are 640. Find (i) the absolute error. (ii) percentage relative error when the number is approximated to the nearest hundred.
(i) Number of students = 640
Number of students correct to nearest hundred = 600
Absolute Error = [640 - 600] = 40
= 6.25 %
Ans: (i) 40 (ii) 6.25%
