Newton's Laws of Motion

Introduction
The word force in common usage refers to a push or pull. The word Mass is also just as familiar as the word force. A super tanker is one that contains an enormous amount of mass. In comparison a coin does not contain much mass.
Newton's First Law of Motion
Every body continues in its state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled by some external force to act otherwise.
Momentum
Momentum is another vector quantity which has the same direction as that of velocity. Momentum is a property of the body possessed by virtue of its mass and velocity. It is the product of mass of the body and its velocity.
Newton's Second Law of Motion
Earlier we have mentioned that application of force can change the velocity of the moving object. Let us suppose that a body of mass 'm' is moving with a velocity 'u'. When a force F is applied on the body for 't' seconds, the velocity changes from the initial velocity 'u' to the final velocity 'v'.
Newton's Third Law of Motion
Suppose you are watching the lift off of a space-shuttle. You hear a deafening roar and see burning gases shooting from the exhaust vents of the rockets. At that moment, the space shuttle system moves slowly upward. You can infer that the force for the lift off comes from the burning gases pushing against the shuttle rockets.
Summary
Inertia is the inability of material body to change, by itself, its state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line.
