Color Perception in Animals and Birds
The structure and the number of rod shaped and cone shaped cells are different for animals and birds. For e.g., bees have cones sensitive to ultraviolet rays.

The retina of chicken has mostly cone shaped cells and only a few rods. It is because of this reason that a chicken can see only in bright light and that is why the chicken wakes up only when sun rises and goes to sleep at sunset.
