Color of Opaque Objects
|
The color of a non-luminous, opaque object depends upon the color of the light reflected by it. The color of the reflected light depends upon the color of the incident light.

|

Case I

Let us now see what happens when white light is incident on a non-luminous opaque object.

The object appears white when all the colors of the white light are reflected. It appears black if none of the colors are reflected. When the object absorbs all the colors except one then it appears to have the color of the reflected light.

Case II

When colored light is incident on a white object it does not absorb any color and the light falling on it is reflected. If colored light is incident on a colored object it absorbs the light and the object appears black as no color is reflected.
