| Summary |
 |
| Today most of our energy needs are
supplied by the fossil fuels. In one hundred years coal will be the only one
left as petroleum products may remain only for 3 to 4 decades. Little of
stored energy will be left if we continue to use energy at the same rate. |
| |
| Fossil fuels are non-renewable. The energy resources that will not run out are renewable sources. These can be used by mankind for ever. The world is using the biomass which makes
only 15% of the world's energy consumption. |
| |
| Hydroelectric power meets 6% of the world's energy needs. It is very expensive to develop but easy and cheap to maintain. Use of solar energy in the form of panels, heaters is another solution for the energy problems we face today. Sea vegetation is another indirect source of energy. Even though wind energy is available in plenty wind is not available all the time. |
| |
| Life on earth depends on achieving a balance between energy supply and the needs of the world. |
