The Universe

Introduction
For thousands of years people have looked up at the stars and wondered what lay beyond them.

It was once believed that the earth was the center of the universe and that everything moved around it. It was later discovered that the earth moves around the sun.

Today, powerful telescopes and space probes provide us with new, exciting information about the stars and planets, while rockets are able to send men and women into space to explore. Nevertheless, there is much that we do not know about the universe.

The universe consists of all matter, light and other forms of radiation and energy. It consists of everything that exists anywhere in space and time. The universe includes the earth and everything on it. It also includes everything in the solar system.
