Numerical 09
09. A long, thin straight solenoid has 500 turns wound over a length of 50cm. It carries a current of 0.5A. What is the magnetic field inside this solenoid?

Suggested solution:

The magnetic field B, at a point on the axis is

B = monI / L

Given: N = 500 : L = 50 cm = 0.5m : I = 0.5A

B = 4 x 10-7 x 5 x 102 x 0.5 / 5 x 10-1 = 6.284 x 10-4 T
