| You have learnt that sound is a form of energy. It is produced by vibrations. Sound waves are longitudinal waves. They are also elastic waves hence they need a material medium for their transmission. They can not be transmitted in vacuum. They travel in solids, liquids and gases. Their velocity is maximum in solids and least in gases. |
