Control and Coordination

Feedback Mechanism

It is a method of controlling the hormone production. In some cases the production of hormones is controlled by the nervous system. In other cases, the hormone itself acts as a control.

For example: Pituitary secretes TSH that stimulates the thyroid to secrete thyroxine. When the level of thyroxine increases, it makes the pituitary stop the production of TSH. This in turn stops the production of thyroxine. Thus, its production is controlled. This is called the feedback mechanism.
