We see a variety of objects in the world around us. However, we are unable to see anything in a dark room. On lighting up the room, things become visible. That is, light is required to see things around us. Thus light can be defined as the external cause responsible for the sensation of vision. The branch of Physics dealing with the nature and properties of light and vision is called optics.
