English Conjunctions
What are Conjunctions in English?
Conjunctions are words that join other words, group of words or phrases or sentences. They are also termed as connectors.
English Grammar has three types of conjunctions
They are
- Coordinating Conjunction
- Subordinating Conjunction
- Correlative Conjunction
- Coordinating conjunctions connect two equal parts of a sentence.
They are
For, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So,And
- Subordinating Conjunction
A subordinating conjunction joins a subordinate clause to a main clause.
They are
- After if though even though
- As long as once when
- Even if than wherever
- In order that why Before
- so that whereas Because
- since where As though
- rather than whenever assuming that
- Correlative conjunctions appear in pairs and show the relationship between the ideas expressed in different parts of a sentence.
They are
- Both . . . and
- Not only . . . but also
- Either . . . or
- Neither . . . nor
- Whether . . . or
- Just as . . . so too
