Vivid Verbs List

Vivid verb : A vivid verb, is a verb that is really descriptive, it is vibrant and dramatic. A vivid verb is so descriptive that when it is used in a story, the reader can actually visualize it in his mind.Vivid verbs help to create interest and excitement. On the other hand specific verbs help the reader to form a mental picture of the action.
Vivid verb list is therefore a list of those words in a sentence that shows the movement in the sentence, and also shows the process taking place in the sentence. If the choice of verbs is good in a story or any piece of writing, it can engage and enthrall the reader and also allow the writer to experience gratification during the process.

In order to make use of vivid verbs students should:
   1. Differentiate between vague and vivid verbs.
   2. Alter ordinary verbs into vivid verbs.
   3. Write descriptive passages using different strategies.
   4. Assess other students' writing for the specificity and visual imagery of their verbs.

This will encourage the students to use more vivid verbs. So, vivid verbs give a very vivid or clear picture of the action taking place and discourage the use of ‘is’ and ‘was.’

The important point about   vivid verbs is that they should be strong and specific in order to create images in readers' minds—using roast rather than cook, or sob rather than bawl. The same is true of nouns. It’s hard to create images in a reader’s mind with words like but specific words, like   material or object, badminton racket and sleeping baby, make visualization easy for readers.
