Question : I assume you have to knwo every part of the human body, so how many muscles, bones and ( think) nerves and the such. Then after that how many operations do you have to memorize in residency?

Answer : 226 bones CN II-XII (stands for cranial nerves 2-12) then there are peripheral nerves that have afferent and efferent properties (carry messages to and from the spinal cord and central nervous system) As far as numbers of 'operations', surgical residency is 5 years for general surgery. How many operations can you do working 80 hours a week an a reasonably busy residency program? How many do you have to memorize? Most every one. Surgeons do , as residents, review the surgeries and anatomies if the have ANY questions of confluence of flow during the surgery. One in the OR with the patient on the table is no time to be trying to read the text book. (Although it has been done) Medicine/Surgery specialties are far more specialized than any way to put a number on it that I know. as for muscles, try this link; http://www.ptcentral.com/muscles/
