Radioactive Decay or Disintegration
Radioactive Decay or Disintegration - A radioactive nucleus or element emits an alpha or a beta particle and gets converted into a new nucleus or element. The process of destruction of the original nucleus during the formation of new nucleus due to radioactivity is called Radioa..

Beta decay form nuclei is accompanied by an antineutrino as a neutron becomes a proton (again). *Screen test* See Beta (Particle) jump from the neutron. 'Alpha Fish-in' is introduced (" Fish-ion"...the alpha is a plus two cat-ion...So beta boy is a dog can chase..can think cat-ion cats like fish, right? Question : equation equals the number of protons on the other side of the equation. ] A. True B. False

Answer : True. Protons, like energy, cannot be created or destroyed, therefore there have to be equal numbers on either side of an equation...   More from Yahoo Answers

Question : why not other combinations

Answer : Firstly it is a given fact by nature in natural decay. This was observed before any attempts to explain it (mainly by Marie and Pierre Curie at the end of the 19th century). Nuclear physics models were made last century to reproduce this fact. The explanation is then that a helium nucleus (2 protons and 2 neutrons) is more stable than most other nuclei because it has a high binding energy. Of course, in the mean time there are many other known types of decays. They are not called natural because they have a "short" half life time so they do no longer occur in nature here on earth because they all decayed a long time ago (if they ever existed, which is assumed they did)...   More from Yahoo Answers
