Question : In my argumentative paper I have to argue "value".topics of abortion, capital punishment are not allowed. These topics have been done so many times. This paper needs to be 4 pages so I need something that I could find lots of information.
Answer : If you want to talk about abortion, argue with your teacher about the merits of reading and reviewing the actual supreme court case law on the topic. Even the justices are not in agreement about the "values" and upselling the reading might be productive. If you're not thrilled about abortion and capital punishment anyway, just remember that everything is political and has value attached to it. Your teacher is leaving this so broad that you can literally pick what you want. Here's one: talk about the changing face of composition instruction due to the development of new media. There's an argument floating around that students today are dumber than ever because they read less (filling that leisure time with TV, video games, text messaging, blogging, etc). What if the situation is the reverse? Perhaps there's a new literacy developing (a visual literacy) that kids are more savvy with.
