Berkeley Lab's George Smoot won the 2006 Physics Nobel Prize, together with John Mather of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, for "the discovery of the blackbody form and anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background radiation." The anisotropy showed as small variations in the map of the early universe. This research looks back into the infant universe and provides a better understanding of the origin of galaxies and stars. The cosmic background radiation is a tool to understand the structure ...
Question :
Answer : Its pretty simple, when two animals have offspring, the offspring will have certain traits from both the mother and the father. If these variations are beneficial to the species, then the animal will live and reproduce to spread these traits. If the variations are not beneficial then the animal will likely die and the traits will not be passed on...   More from Yahoo Answers

Question : Example: The idea of kind is probably a much broader category than what we have come to think of a species. Variations are allowable, but there has never been any observed crossing over of one kind into another distinct kind.
Answer : Define what you mean by "crossing over" of one kind into another distinct kind? Exactly what would you be satisfied with in terms of a new species? If you start out with fruit flies and, through a process of systematic artificial mutation and selection arrive at a slightly different insect that was perfectly compatible with life, but unable to reproduce with the original fruit flies, would that be enough to demonstrate the evolutionary principle for you? These things can be done under laboratory conditions but even so, something tells me that you wouldn't be happy with that. I believe that it is possible through a methodical process of artificial mutation and selection to take simple insects like fruit flies, and, in a short time, perhaps a year or two, turn them into entirely different creatures totally unlike fruit flies. Has the experiments been done? If not, they should be. See: Artificial life will be created 'within months' as genome experts claim vital breakthrough ....   More from Yahoo Answers
