definitions : A definition is a passage (usually prose) describing the meaning of a word or phrase. The term to be defined is known as the definiendum (Latin: what is to be defined). The words which define it are known as the definiens (Latin: what defines). Definitions also occur in more formal languages (like mathematics), often for the sake of discussion within the text of the manuscript (as opposed to being 'definitive' for general use in discourse). A prime difficulty for creating definitions is the need to describe the meaning in terms already understandable (or easily obtained) by the reader. For this reason, definitions are often clusters of statements, each partially differentiating the 'definiendum' from other concepts (e.g., multiple examples) as the full richness of the distinctions of the term can sometimes be subtle (and thus not amenable to pithy definition). A definition may either describe the meaning that a term bears in general use, providing a descriptive definitio....   More from Wikipedia

Question : For my class we're supposed to find two polar (opposite) definitions of animal abuse and animal welfare, so if you could give me your personal definition of each I'd really appreciate it. Alright, just for a little bit of clarification, I want your personal definitions please. Make them as crazy as you want to, that's kinda the point, and don't worry about researching it or anything. Thanks agian.
Answer : Animal abuse: Blatant and intentional, causing harm just for the purpose of injuring. Animal neglect: unintentional, often due to lack of knowledge of services for animals. May be as bad as abuse, but, the difference is that the person did not mean to do it. Animal welfare: The idea that animals should be treated as humanely as possible while not treading on humans rights to raise animals for food, keep pets and do necessary animal testing. An animal welfare law will require better standards for animals raised for meat, BUT, won't make laws that make raising animals for meat so expensive it's no longer feasible. Animal rights: Demands equal rights for animals and believes that animals have the right not to be eaten, not to be worn, not to be kept as pets or experimented on. Typically, animal rights activists ignore the fact that they have to take away human rights to give animals rights. They also can't control that animals will still eat other animals, but, demand that humans qu....   More from Yahoo Answers
