"Discrete mathematics" Introduction

Wikipedia
discrete mathematics : Discrete mathematics is the study of mathematical structures that are fundamentally discrete rather than continuous. Real numbers and rational numbers have the property that between any two numbers a third can be found, and consequently these numbers vary "smoothly". The objects generally studied in discrete mathematics – such as integers, graphs, and statements in logic – do not vary smoothly in this way, but have distinct, separated values. Discrete mathematics therefore excludes topics in "continuous mathematics" such as calculus and analysis. Alternatively, discrete mathematics can be characterised as the branch of mathematics dealing with countable sets (including rational numbers but not real numbers), but there is no exact, universally agreed, definition of the term. It is more what is excluded (the notions of a continuously varying quantity and related notions) than what is included that describes discrete mathematics. The term finite mathematics is somet....   More from Wikipedia

Question : I am condidering taking discrete mathematics next year as a college post seconday course. This year I am in Algebra II and have had 2 A's and 1 B so far this year. I was wondering what level of math discrete mathematics is and if it would be harder or easier than the level i am already at????

Answer : It is much simpler than say, Analysis. You might have topics like permutations and combinations and set theory...   More from Yahoo Answers

Question : I'm thinking about taking them both on a summer semester. I'm planning to take Discrete Mathematics as an online class, and Linear Algebra as a regular class. Or is it too much? thanks I am currently taking Calculus 3. I had all A's on all my math classes so far. And no, I'm not planning to take any other classes, except for those 2. I want to also know if any one has ever done it.

Answer : I think if you are just doing 2 classes it is manageable...especially if you have a nack for math :P it will definitely be hard tho! my recommendation however would be to take discrete first, as it teaches you HOW TO PROVE, a skill that is extremely invaluable for linear algebra :) if i could do it over, i would do it that way >.<..   More from Yahoo Answers
