"Electrostatic charges" Introduction

From   Wikipedia , TutorVista
Wikipedia
electrostatic charges : Electric charge is a fundamental conserved property of some subatomic particles, which determines their electromagnetic interaction. Electrically charged matter is influenced by, and produces, electromagnetic fields. The interaction between a moving charge and an electromagnetic field is the source of the electromagnetic force, which is one of the four fundamental forces. Electric charge is a characteristic of some subatomic particles. It is quantized: when expressed in units of the so-called elementary charge e, it takes integer or fractional values. Electrons by convention have a charge of −1, while protons have the opposite charge of +1. Quarks have a fractional charge of − 1 ⁄ 3 or + 2 ⁄ 3. The antiparticle equivalents of these ( positrons, antiprotons, and antiquarks, respectively) have the opposite charge. There are other charged particles. The discrete nature of electric charge was proposed by Michael Faraday in his electrolysis experiments, and th....   More from Wikipedia

electrostatic charges : Electric surface charge appears practically always on an object surface when it is placed into a fluid. All fluids contain ions, positive ( cations) and negative ( anions). These ions interact with the object surface. This interaction might lead to adsorption some of them on the surface. If..   More from Wikipedia

2. At the surface of a charged conductor, electrostatic field must be normal to the surface at every point.
If the electric field is not normal to the surface, then it would have same non-zero component along the surface. The free charges on the surface would then experience a force and move. In a static situation, electrostatic field should not have tangential component, which in tu..
Electrostatic Potential
charge exhibiting electrostatic potential The electrostatic potential is defined as the work done in bringing a single positive charge from infinity to a point in the electric field. Any point outside the electric field or space is called infinite point. The unit of potential is volt (V). Electric potential is a p..

Please leave a comment. Had some problems weighing small samples with an analytical balance. Turns out it was electrostatic charge buildup from contact with nitrile gloves. Also turns out to be easy to fix, just use bare hands at the right time. See for yourself how much charge builds up.
Girl does not discharge the electric charge build up from her car until it's too late and there are gasoline fumes... This is NOT caused by cell phone use. I know this is uploaded elsewhere, but this version is shorter, and does not have watermarks or annoying music.

Question : Exactly why does a negatively charged rod i) Pick up small pieces of paper and ii) Bend a jet of water thanks

Answer : ii.) water is polar, so it always has a slight negative charge on H atom, and a slight positive charge toward the O atoms. A negative force, such as the rod, willl attract the positive side. However, the intermolecular attraction within the water molecules is strong enough to keep the water from being pulled apart. i.) as for this, the only sense I can make of it is if the pieces of paper were saturated in some type of positive ion solution. hope this helps!..   More from Yahoo Answers

Question : What time of year would static shocks be most frequent?

Answer : Because moisture would conduct the charge to ground (literally the earth). Here in Southern California, it is during winter when we get (Santa Anas) the dry desert air from the east. Some places have low humidity all year long, even when it's cold...   More from Yahoo Answers
