Question : I'm starting the CELTA course at the end of August (the qualification to be able to teach English to speakers of other languages). During my application it was identified that I need to improve my English skills, tenses etc. Can you recommend me a book or short course that will improve my skills? Although I have a degree, I've not done AS level English, I stopped at GCSE. Therefore, I'm looking for something at A Level standard minimum. Thank you.

Answer : Teaching Tenses by Rosemary Aitken is very good for brushing up on grammar. I bought it myself when I did the CELTA course and I still dip into it frequently when preparing lessons. "Learning Teaching" by Jim Scrivener and "The Practice of English Language Teaching by Jeremy Harmer" are both books that are probably on your reading list for the course, anyway; reading them beforehand will give you a broader idea of what you are getting into. Doing some of the quizzes and tests on the BBC Skillswise site might give you a clearer idea of the grammar areas you need to focus on. http://www.bbc.co.uk/skillswise hope this helps, and good luck!..   More from Yahoo Answers

Question : i am an engineering student and i want to improve my english language skill in order to get a better placement in one of the leading "M.N.C's".i would like to have suggestions indicating any such study material or reference material available for free on the internet.

Answer : A decade ago to learn English, you had to attend costly English classes or purchase course material like tapes and books. Now you can learn English for free from the comfort of your home using the internet. The BBC and the British Council offer a number of online courses which teach written and spoken English. You can also improve your English by watching television programs and reading English newspapers. For more information, visit http://tinyurl.com/qnzpt..   More from Yahoo Answers
