Question : Can someone please explain to me how to do electron configuration? and do the EC for these: Sulfur Ruthenium Cesium Iodine Mercury and name the elements for 1s^2 2s^2 2p^1 1s^2 2s^2 2p^6 3s^2 3p^6 4s^2 1s^2 2s^2 2p^6 3s^2 3p^6 4s^2 3d^10 4p^2

Answer : Find out the number of shells these guys have. Let's do sulfur. Its atomic no. is 16. Configuration is 2.8.6 (=16). In your case, its 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p4. See that in 2.8.6, you have 3 shells so in your EC, you'd have numbers up to 3. s-shell can have a max of 2e, p=6e, d=10e. With that, do the rest. Next part, ask yourself how many shells are there. 1s2 2s2 2p1 means it has two shells (i.e. anything less than 10 in the periodic table since if you have two shells, it's in the second period with max 10 electrons). First shell =2, second shell =3. Total = 5. So it's boron. I'm sure you'd learn that in school. Anyway, make mistakes and learn from it alright?
