Answer : dogs and/or cats. Picture 2 circles, one is dogs, other is cats. Have the 2 circles overlap each other a little bit, like the rings for the Olympics overlap each other. If you want just dogs, you get the whole dog circle. If you want just cats, you get the whole cat circle. If you want cats AND dogs, you get the part where they overlap. If you want cats but NOT dogs, you get only the part of the cat circle that isn't overlapped by the dog circle. If you want dogs but NOT cats, you would get the part of the dog circle that isn't overlapped by cats. Theoretically, this means if you do a web search for DOGS, you'll get all the web pages that has the word DOG on it. If you do a search for CATS, you'll get all the pages of CATS. If you say CATS not DOGS, you'll get the pages with cats on it, but only if there isn't also dogs on those pages.
