Answer : For the first one 98 is close to 100 - but less than, so 100 times 27, just add two zeros and you get 2700, since the actual answer is less, you can put <. For the second one the 196 is closest to 200, so twice 37 is 74, add two zeros you get 7400 which is less than and the actual answer is even less, so you can put <. you could also round up 37 to 40, then you get 40 times 200, which is 8000, and you know the actual answer is less since you rounded up, so put less than,< again. I remember less than because if you put your fingers like a less than sign and open them up a little it looks like L for less than.
