I replaced the mantles in our gas street light and tested them for radioactivity, I was getting readings from 3000 to 4000 CPM with them still in the original package... some mantles use a radioactive element called thorium to increase brightness.

Question : Suppose an experiment is performed in which plant 1 is supplied with normal carbon dioxide but with water that contains radioactive oxygen atoms. Plant 2 is supplied with normal water but with carbon dioxide that contains radioactive oxygen atoms. Each plant is allowed to perform photosynthesis and the oxygen gas and sugars produced are tested for radioactivity. Which plant would you expect to produce radioactive sugars and which plant would you expect to produce radioactive oxygen gas? Why?

Answer : Two reactions are involved in photosynthesis- Light reaction- 2H2O -> 4H+ + O2 + 4e- (photolysis in Photosystem II). The chlorophyll keeps the electrons (e-) and ships the hydrogen ions (H+) & O2 to the stroma but secretes the O2 as waste while it takes in CO2. Dark reaction- Now the electron (e-) & hydrogen ion (H+), via transport molecules, are combined with CO2 to make the carbohydrate glucose. 6CO2 + 6H2O = C6H12O6 + 6O2 Plant I gets [15O] radiolabled water => [15O]2 gas Plant II gets [14C] radiolabled CO2 => [14C] radiolabeled glucose..   More from Yahoo Answers

Question : It is known that the light and the heat of the waves that come from the sun, interacting with the microwaves coming from the waves of interstellar gases, supply the natural balance that gets to Earth every moment. On the surface there are typical phenomena of elements that have instable atomic nucleus, a natural radioactivity. It artificially changes the radioactivity into an unbalanced condition, causing a cancerous nuclear reaction, phenomenon discovered years ago by the responsible for the..
