Question : Hi, it's been a couple of years since i did this, and i have to do one for my english class on the mother in the life time move prayers for bobby what are the main points you talk about in a character sketch?
Answer : First you must closely observe, recognize, and record any details (big or small) in the reading that might pertain to the character (whether it be what their physical appearance is, how they interact with other characters, their age, gender, personality, etc.) Next, get a blank sheet of paper. In the center of the sheet write the name of the character and draw a circle around it. I recommend you not to write to large so that you will have enough space to write your ideas. Now, draw a line from the middle circle to another space on the sheet. Write a broad catagory in the space like 'Appearance' for example. Then draw a small circle around it. Now around that circle, write any thoughts, ideas, and details that you found earlier in the reading. Repeat this method throughout the entire character sketch and you are insured to get a good grade. I wish the best of luck to you.

Question : Many writers, before they write their story they do a character study or sketch to help them come up with ideas for their story. I'm not 100% clear on what a character sketch or character study exactly is. How long should it be? Can you please explain?
Answer : There isn't a prescribed length... basically just enough info to make the character more rounded. It can be as brief or detailed as you like. They usually contain physical attributes, personality, a little bit of history... What I do is nab personality surveys that float around various blogs and other websites, then fill them in from the POV of the character. This method also sometimes helps by prompting additional plot points.
