independent variables : The terms " dependent variable" and " independent variable" are used in similar but subtly different ways in mathematics and statistics as part of the standard terminology in those subjects. They are used to distinguish between two types of quantities being considered, separating them into those available at the start of a process and those being created by it, where the latter (dependent variables) are dependent on the former (independent variables). The independent variable is typically the variable being manipulated or changed and the dependent variable is the observed result of the independent variable being manipulated. For example concerning nutrition, the independent variable of your daily vitamin C intake (how much should I take) can determine the dependent variable of your life span (what is the result or observation as a result of manipulating the 'independent variable'). Scientists will manipulate the vitamin C intake in a group of lets say 100 people who are over the..   More from Wikipedia

independent variables : An intervening variable is a hypothetical internal state that is used to explain relationships between observed variables, such as independent and dependent variables, in empirical research. The term “ intervening variable ” was first used by behavioral psychologist Edward C. Tolman in 1938...   More from Wikipedia

Access full lesson containing this video at: www.yourteacher.com Students learn that in a dependency relationship, one variable depends on the other variable. For example, the amount of snow on the ground depends on the amount of snow that has fallen. The independent variable is the amount of snow that has fallen, and the dependent variable is the amount of snow on the ground. Students learn that in a correlational relationship, however, there is a connection between the variables, but one ...

Question : the question:your being paid 8$ an hour, you explored the relationship between the number of hours worked during the week and your total earnings for that week. Designate a letter for the independent variable of the function, and designate a letter for the function name.Use function notation to express the relationship between the variables, using the letters you designated. does anyone get this? becuz i dont please explain.

Answer : h = hours worked E = Total Earnings so, E = 8 * h because your total earnings equals the number of hours that you worked times your hourly rate. It's just written in unnecessarily convoluted language. PS: If you want to get real fancy, you could express it as: E(w) = 8 * h here, w simply identifies the particular week (week #1, #2, etc.). So, for example, E(4) = 8 * h simply means earning for week #4..   More from Yahoo Answers

Question : I am testing the affect of increased flexibility on the muscle-tendon unit's ability to function. All subjects will be given the same physical test at the beginning of the experiment. Then, half of the subjects will be given stretching and flexibility exercises to do for 3 weeks, while the others will be asked not to stretch at all. Then at the end they will be given the same test. What are my dependent and independent variables?

Answer : the tendons increased flexibility will depend solely on the exercises given.Your desired results or objective will only be obtained by adherence to specific types of stretching. The mere fact that the tendon will work according to it's purpose, without any outside stimulus speaks for it's self...   More from Yahoo Answers
