median : In probability theory and statistics, a median is described as the number separating the higher half of a sample, a population, or a probability distribution, from the lower half. The median of a finite list of numbers can be found by arranging all the observations from lowest value to highest value and picking the middle one. If there is an even number of observations, the median is not unique, so one often takes the mean of the two middle values. At most half the population have values less than the median and at most half have values greater than the median. If both groups contain less than half the population, then some of the population is exactly equal to the median. For example, if a < b < c, then the median of the list { a, b, c} is b, and if a < b < c < d, then the median of the list { a, b, c, d} is the mean of b and c, i.e. it is ( b + c)/2. The median can be used when a distribution is skewed, when end values are not known....   More from Wikipedia

Recall a line segment joining the vertex to the mid-point of the opposite side of a triangle. In D ABC, AD is the line segment drawn from A to BC (opposite side of A). AD is a median of a triangle. "The line segment jointing a vertex of a triangle to the mid-point of the opposite is c..

Question : 38,46,54,56,62,64,67,77,88
they give the median as 62 which I agree but the mean as 59.1? I work it out at 61.3
Have I gone mad?
Answer : I also got 61.3 when I worked it out, so either the book is wrong and we are right or we have both gone mad...   More from Yahoo Answers

Question :
Answer : It's fairly easy to do that with excel and other programs. Just create and plug in the variables. As to how these concepts can be incorporated into daily life, it depends on how you define it. They are already used in our daily lives, because of our jobs. Many professions, such as business and education, require the understanding and use of these concepts. If you are talking about our lives away from the job, these tools can be (and are) used to monitor expenditures, diet, excercise/workout progress, and investments, to name a few. Because of the computer and Internet, statistical tools are more readily available to the average person. Still, that person has to understand the concepts of medium, mean, etc. and be motivated enough to use them...   More from Yahoo Answers
