Question : Hypothesis: The longer your right hand index finger is and the taller you are.
We've worked out the mean/mode/median for male heights, male index finger lengths, female heights and female index finger lengths.
Once we have all that data, how do we compare them to answer the hypothesis which is asking to compare them?
Answer : Comparing means/medians/modes will not help you answer your question, because it doesn't associate a given finger length with the height of that person. There's no way to test your hypothesis if you cannot somehow link finger length to height for each individual. The easiest thing to do would be to ignore the gender category (your hypothesis doesn't have anything to do with gender), and calculate a correlation coefficient (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correlation_coefficient) between finger length and height. The correlation should be a number between 0 and 1 (you shouldn't expect a negative correlation!); the larger the coefficient, the more highly associated finger length is with height. Question : I know mean is another way of saying "average" and I know how to figure out averages, but what does mode and median mean? How do you figure it out? Thanks
Answer : mean is average median is middle number mode is the number that occus the most So to calculate mean you have to add up all the numbers in the sequence and divide it by the set of numbers in the sequence. To calculate median its the middle number so order your numbers.
