Chrome yellow - Chrome Yellow is a natural yellow pigment made of lead(II) chromate (PbCrO 4). It was first extracted from the mineral crocoite by the French chemist Louis Vauquelin in 1809. Because the pigment tends to oxidize and darken on exposure to air over time, and it contains lead, a toxic, heavy..

New Technique Produces 10-carat Diamond - ScienceDaily (May 29, 2005) — Researchers at the Carnegie Institution of Washington, D.C. have produced 10-carat, half-inch thick single-crystal diamonds at rapid growth rates (100 micrometers per hour) using a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process. The size is approximately five times that of commercially available diamonds produced by the standard high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT) method and other CVD techniques. Most HPHT synthetic diamond is yellow and most CVD diamond is brown, limiting their optical applications. Colorless diamonds are costly to produce and so far those reported are small. This limits general applications of these diamonds as gems, in optics, and....

Question : Im thinking bout buying a genuine diamand earring but i dont know what 'clarity' and 'color' means when it comes to quality. here is what the seller claims... Gem Type: Natural diamonds Weight: .20 carat total weight Clarity: I1 (good sparkle) Color: H Cut: Good (Round Brilliant) Metal: Solid 14K White Gold Apraised value: $800.00 USD is this a quality diamond?

Answer : No, this is crap... I1 means industrial grade. H may appear slightly off-white in a white gold mount. Clarity isn't whether it sparkles - that's cut... clarity is whether or not it's got chunks of carbon in it (or other inclusions). The clarity can be 'Flawless' F, or 'Very Very Slightly Included' VVS, or 'Very Slightly Included' VS, or 'Slightly Included', or 'Included' - this one is I... it is included... it isn't good. Color can be D, E, F, G, H, I.... With 'D' being colorless, and each step being slightly more color... once you get to 'H' you'll probably think it's a little yellow in a white gold mount.

Question : Hello - I have yet to get this ring appraised but I want to transfer the diamond (if possible) from the yellow gold ring to a white gold ring. Would the yellow gold have any trade-in value to the white gold ring? Can they even transfer the diamond? I'm obviously clueless when it comes to jewelry. This is for an engagement ring.

Answer : If you are going to have 18ct white gold, then an average weight for a ring with a 1.5 ct diamond is going to be about 5 to 8 grams for an engagement type ring. A cost of about 65 to 85 dollars per gram would be average. Your old ring if it was 18 ct yellow gold would have a scrap value of about $25 per gram, if the stone can be removed without damaging the ring and the ring is a nice style them a manufacturer might allow a little more as a trade in, (I would). If you are dealing with an upmarket jeweler you could double the making cost. Alas white and yellow gold are not the same price, because Platinum and or Palladium (both of which are far more expensive than the silver and copper and zinc which are used to alloy yellow gold)could be used to alloy the gold white and also a little greater difficulty in working with it. If you are coming to Australia contact me and I would give you a good quote. Search out a good manufacturing jeweler, they are normally found away from the str..
