"Opposite angles" Introduction

Wikipedia
opposite angles : A pair of angles is said to be vertical (US English) or vertically opposite (British English) if the angles share the same vertex and are bounded by the same pair of lines but are opposite to each other. Such angles are congruent and thus have equal measure. If two line segments, EF and GH, intersect at the point P, they form four angles, EPG, GPF, FPH, and HPE. These angles can be grouped into two pairs of vertical angles: one vertical pair contains EPG and FPH, and the other pair contains GPF and HPE. Any angle in the first pair is supplementary to any angle in the second pair. The most obvious way to tell if two angles are vertical angles are if they form an "X". A vertical angle is an angle that intersects with another one. This theorem can be proved in an algebraic way. Assume that angle A in the picture is equal to the measure x, and then subtract x from 180 (the amount of degrees in a line) to get angle C, or 180-x. Then, to find angle B, subtract the quantity..   More from Wikipedia

opposite angles : Vertical plane is used in radio to plot an antenna's relative field strength perpendicular to the ground (which directly affects a station's coverage area) on a polar graph. Normally the maximum of 1.000 or 0 dB is at the side (unless there is beam tilt), which is labeled 0°, to 90° at the..   More from Wikipedia

Opposite angles
of a quadrilateral: Two angles, which do not include a side in their intersection, are called the opposite angles of a quadrilateral..
Vertically opposite angles
When two straight lines intersect each other at a point, the pairs of opposite angles so formed are called vertically opposite angles..

Question : What is the proof that proves that opposite angles in an inscirbed polygon (a polygon in a circle) are supplementary?

Answer : Umm, there is no such proof, because it is false. In fact, I don't even know what "opposite angles" are in a general polygon! (It only makes sense if there are an even number of sides...) For example, a regular hexagon may be inscribed in a circle, but the angles are all 60 . It is, however, true for a quadrilateral. This is because the angles subtend supplementary arcs of the circle (in the sense that the two arcs together form the whole circle). Since the measure of the angle is half the measure of the arc, the sum is half the measure of the circle, which is 360 ...   More from Yahoo Answers

Question : This is on my Geometry review sheet for my test and i have no idea, OAT (Opposite Angle Theorem) i always thought to explain opposite angles so i don't know what the difference would be...

Answer : Quite a few theorems involve the term "opposite angles". For example is opposite angles of a quadrilateral are equal, it's a parallelogram. Another says if 2 sides of a triangle are equal, then the opposite angles are congruent. When 2 lines intersect, then the vertically opposite angles formed are equal (called VOAT). In a triangle the largest angle is opposite the longest side. So I'm not sure which you are talking about. I believe that what you know as OAT is also called VOAT, listed above. EDIT: I just found another site listing theorums that may be of use to you. For example 9.4 states If a quadrilateral is inscribed in a circle, then its opposite angles are supplementary...   More from Yahoo Answers
