Question : I know that when when you are adding numbers when both numbers are negatives, the sum will be negative, and when you are adding numbers when one number is positive and one is negative, the sum will be whatever the sign is for the bigger number. Is this true when you are subtracting positive and negative numbers?

Answer : mostly out of tradition, but when we list out the numbers it just makes sense to start with 0, 1, 2, 3, ..... and keep going until you get tired but imagine trying to start with an arbitrary number and counting down: ....what would happen if you need to start with a larger number than you did, you would have to count up to it..   More from Yahoo Answers
