Question : I have a website which will collect personal information from users who sign up. I'd like to create a privacy policy and terms of use document and post it clearly on the site. Q: Can I write my own privacy policy/terms of use docs or does it need to be written by lawyers or notarized if written by me? Does any law mandate that? Q: If I can write my own, are there any templates of these docs which I can use to start from? Thank you

Answer : I believe that the short answer to question 1 is Yes. It would however depend on the website if there were laws regarding what would be required i.e. Financial Institution. Stock Trading company etc. For a simple website It would be fine to write your own or find a template. Good legal advise is best provided by a lawyer and if you have any reservations or concerns I would strongly suggest consulting one. Answer : It's true. I've heard Yahoo is "rethinking" the policy. People have gone to prison and re-education camps based on info provided to the communist government by Yahoo. None that I know of have been executed, yet...   More from Yahoo Answers
